The Founded In Tee marks Charleston, South Carolina, where the first SOFX Report went out in 2014. Its graphic features the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, connecting the publication to the city where it formally began, and is still operated out of.

The habit behind SOFX started years earlier in Iraq. As Deputy Commander of all Special Operations Forces in the Arabian Peninsula, then-Commander Sam Havelock wrote an informal daily intelligence update over classified email channels. It kept a global network of operators aligned on events taking place across the region and became a standard procedure that outlasted his command.

Havelock concluded his uniformed service as a career Navy SEAL in 2012. Two years later, he carried the same briefing philosophy into the first SOFX Report.

The platform changed. The daily habit remained.
